Army Reiterates DOD Policy Restricting Political Activity

March 12, 2020

As the election season approaches, the U.S. Army wrote an article reminding service members their limitations regarding political activities mandated by the Hatch Act and DOD Directive 1344.10.

Military members and civilian employees serving in an official military activity cannot use their title or association with the DOD to express a political belief.

Although, these mandates do not mean a service member cannot vote or express political opinions. “Freedom of speech allows you to place any yard signs and flag you wish at your home unless [you] live on post, then garrison regulations can restrict such displays,” said Army Maj. Johnny Davis.
