House to Try Again to Pass Defense Spending Bill

September 26, 2023

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is trying again today to begin debate on a defense appropriations bill, along with three other spending bills, according to news reports. As On Base reported, a few House Freedom Caucus members have blocked recent attempts to bring up the defense spending bill.

If the procedural rule vote passes, the House could vote on the bill tomorrow.

The Senate has not considered its version of the defense spending bill on the floor, so there’s no chance a negotiated bill could be completed in time to take effect before Saturday’s potential government shutdown.
