DC Gives Itself Four More Weeks for a Spending Deal

November 21, 2019

President Trump signed a short-term continuing resolution just hours before the government was set to shut down Thursday night. The Senate had passed the bill that afternoon.
It extends current government spending levels through Dec. 20. It also allows for a 3.1% military pay raise.
Even with the extra time, lawmakers and the White House will be in a crunch to reach agreement on the 12 annual spending bills. As lawmakers leave town for Thanksgiving, they have not yet agreed on how much to allocate to each of the bills.
