NDAA Leaves PFAS Fight Unsettled

December 10, 2019

The National Defense Authorization Act deal bans DOD from using PFAS at installations after 2024, but the final bill does not include House-passed language requiring the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate the chemicals.
“These chemicals are endangering communities across the country,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday, according to CQ. “House Democrats will continue to make this issue a priority in the New Year, until all Americans are protected.”
The Senate-led GOP has not advanced stand-alone legislation that would label the chemicals as hazardous under Superfund guidelines.
