Air Force Academy, VA Chart Out Reopening Plans

While COVID-19 cases continue to rise around the nation, the United States Air Force Academy and Veterans Affairs are beginning to institute new measures to return to normalcy.

The United States Air Force Academy announced the institution will lift Official Business Only restrictions starting on Monday, reports Fox21 News.

This includes access to the base for DoD identification cardholders, exchange and commissaries, golf course as well as health and fitness facilities. Other recreation facilities such as arts and crafts, camping and equestrian areas will also be open on Monday.

Staff and patrons will continue to be required to wear face masks and adhere to social distancing.

The Department of Veterans Affairs also announced it will begin to return to pre-COVID-19 operations in a recent press release. The agency plans to open its facilities in a three-phase plan.

Due to the rate of infection not being static around the country, the VA is looking at conditions on the ground before making any decisions.

“A central planning solution for resuming regular operations makes no sense here because some areas of the country will take longer to recover, while other areas have seen minimal cases,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “That’s why we’re letting local conditions dictate our next steps.”
