Navy SEALs Resume Special Warfare Training

May 6, 2020

After a pause in training that began in March, Navy officials announced selection-and-assessment training of SEAL and special warfare combatant-craft crewmen (SWCC) candidates will begin again next week, reports USNI News.

“My decision in restarting training follows very careful planning that included implementing COVID-19 mitigation efforts that are based on [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] recommendations and [Defense Department] guidance,” said Capt. Bart Randall, the commodore of NSW Center.

Randall said there have not been any COVID-19 cases under his command. Precautions taken by NSW include a 14-day quarantine period before entering bootcamp, organizing recruits into small cohorts, and maintaining social distancing when possible.

“But the bottom line is, they’re going to have close contact. Right now, the students are on log [physical training] down at the beach. … We are not going to change the training that we’ve established here throughout the history of Naval Special Warfare because of this,” said Capt. Randall.
