Fort Hood, Texas has become the first military installation to receive an award from the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government, according to an Army story. The organization recognized 1st Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment and the Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership as winners of the Rising to Excellence Award for their work with a local school. “A lot of people don’t think to contact the local military base, but many times there is someone who is coordinating community outreach, and they are looking for ways to be involved in their communities,” NAVPLG President Mary Lynn Perry said….

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority in New Jersey got borough council approval to add 275 residential units, about 20% of which would be designated as affordable housing, centraljersey.com reported.
