Hawaii Public Radio reported that about 100 community members turned out for an open house that gave them “direct access to military personnel like never before to understand this chapter of Red Hill.” The military is planning for an October start date to drain the World War II-era fuel tank that leaked into the Navy water system near Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam about 18 months ago. “I think it’s very important that we be informed about what our government is doing to protect us,” said one community member who found the open house helpful….

The Minnesota National Guard will meet its recruitment goals for the first time in at least three years, CBS News reported. “My father fought in Desert Storm and Kuwait and Panama. My grandpa’s in Vietnam, my other ancestors fighting in Europe. So I was able to serve the United States in the United States. I guess that really excites me,” said one high school junior who’s signed up to join the Guard.
