Following Biden’s Speech, White House Requests $105 Billion

October 20, 2023

The White House this morning formally requested that Congress provide more than $105 billion in emergency funding for national security, as NBC News reported. The request comes hours after President Biden’s national address to make the case for supporting Israel and Ukraine.

“American leadership is what holds the world together,” Biden said in the speech. “American alliances are what keep us, America, safe. American values are what make us a partner that other nations want to work with. To put all that at risk if we walk away from Ukraine, if we turn our backs on Israel, it’s just not worth it.”

The package would fund support to Israel, more aid for Ukraine and border security. The request also includes $50 billion in defense manufacturing, the White House said in a fact sheet published today.

“Resources for the American defense industrial base will support American jobs, increase our nation’s ability to produce critically important munitions and other equipment, and ensure our military continues to be the most ready, capable, and best equipped fighting force the world has ever seen,” the fact sheet said.
