DOD Awards REPI Challenge Funding at 22 Installations

The DOD Readiness and Environment Protection Integration Program has awarded REPI Challenge funds for 17 projects, benefitting 22 installations and many nearby communities, according to a recent announcement. DOD contributed $23 million to the projects, with more than $36 million in additional funding from REPI partners.

“From its pilot project in FY 2012, the REPI Program designed the REPI Challenge for partners and installations to cultivate innovative projects that harness creativity and protect critical testing and training capabilities,” the announcement said.

The 2024 REPI Challenge recipients include:

  • S. Army Garrison-Hawai’i in partnership with Bishop Museum, O’ahu
  • Pacific Missile Range Facility in partnership with Makauwahi Cave Reserve, Kaua’i
  • Pōhakuloa Training Area in partnership with Parker Ranch Foundation Trust, Hawai’i Island
  • Air Force Maui Optical & Supercomputing Site in partnership with Maui County, Office of Economic Development, Maui
  • S. Army Garrison–Hawai’i in partnership with Office of Hawaiian Affairs, O’ahu
  • Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands, Marine Corps Base Hawai’i, Pōhakuloa Training Area in partnership with the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Kaua’i, O’ahu, Hawai’i Island
  • Marine Corps Base Hawai’i in partnership with Hawai’i Land Trust, O’ahu
  • Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington in partnership with the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Sentinel Landscape Partnership Program
  • Scott Air Force Base, Illinois in partnership with the HeartLands Conservancy
  • Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida in partnership with Archbold Biological Station
  • Fort Huachuca, Arizona in partnership with the Arizona Land and Water Trust
  • Hill Air Force Base, Utah in partnership with the Compatible Lands Foundation
  • Joint Region Marianas in partnership with the Guam Department of Agriculture
  • Joint Region Marianas in partnership with the University of Guam, Western Pacific Tropical Research Center
  • Fort Wainwright, Alaska in partnership with the Compatible Lands Foundation
