VA Placed More than 46,000 Homeless Veterans in Housing Last Year

February 6, 2024

The Department of Veterans Affairs had a 2023 goal to house 38,000 veterans in 2023. It exceeded that goal by more than 20%, placing 46,552 veterans in permanent housing, Military.com reported. VA officials announced last week that almost 96% of those placed in housing in 2023 remained in housing.

They also said their department is well-positioned to help homeless veterans if they need services such as health care, training, education, disability benefits.

“We know what works,” said Monica Díaz, executive director of the VA Homeless Programs Office. “Veteran homelessness is solvable, and we have the right tools to do the job,” Diaz said.
