Climate Advocates Want More Emissions Disclosure from Defense Contractors

March 27, 2024

Twenty-two progressive groups are asking the Pentagon to finalize a rule requiring large federal contractors to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, Politico reported Tuesday in its National Security Daily newsletter.

“While greater action must be taken to reduce the military’s overall ecological impact, closing the gap in military emissions reporting is a critical first step to adopting a meaningful climate change mitigation strategy for a more secure and resilient future,” they wrote Tuesday in a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and General Services Administration Administrator Robin Carnahan.

The letter was led by Win Without War and the Center for International Policy. Among the signers were groups such as Common Defense, Sierra Club and Veterans For Peace.
