Summit Preview: Closing the Gap in Affordable Child Care

March 27, 2024

DOD, Congress and communities are working to address the challenges that remain in helping military families find quality, affordable child care. It is one of the most pressing quality of life concerns service members report.

The topic will be covered at sessions throughout the Defense Communities National Summit, including a breakout session that “will discuss these challenges and offer policy and program recommendations to help close the gap in access to quality, affordable childcare for military families,” according to the Summit agenda.

Speakers will include:

  • Olivia Burley, Washington State Military Spouse Liaison, Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Kayla Corbitt, founder of Operation Child Care
  • Maria Quinn, active duty spouse and founder of Design Your Family Life
  • Sally Velez, Blue Star Families DEPLOY Fellow

Child care will also be a topic in general sessions, including when the leaders of the House Armed Services Committee’s Quality of Life Panel address the Summit.
