Johnson Faces Obstacles on Ukraine Package

April 10, 2024

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) “has a very stark choice in front of him — pass a Ukraine aid bill or remain speaker,” Punchbowl News reported this morning.

As On Base reported yesterday, Johnson is floating a plan that would provide aid to Ukraine, along with language to fund the support with seized Russan assets and pause the Biden administration’s ban on approvals of liquefied natural gas exports.

But the plan “isn’t gaining overwhelming traction with his GOP colleagues,” Punchbowl reported.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) Tuesday stepped up her threats to try to oust Johnson from his speakership with a new letter to her Republican colleagues.
