The Army may scale back an education benefit it started four years ago to help soldiers get professional credentials in such fields as coding, cybersecurity, personal training and other skills, Military.com reported, citing “multiple sources directly familiar with the situation, and documents and internal emails reviewed by Military.com.”

The Army Credentialing Assistance program, also known as “Army CA,” began in 2020 to complement traditional scholarship programs by supporting soldiers who weren’t seeking a college degree. They got $4,000 per year for various civilian credentials.

Now, the service is looking to cut that back to $1,000 each year with a $4,000 career cap, the report said. Under the reported planned changes, the pursued certification would have to match the soldier’s Army job.

Military.com noted in its Monday afternoon article that the “Army did not return multiple requests for comment in recent days.”
