DOD’s Military Spouse Career Accelerator Pilot program will this year include opportunities for military spouses starting their careers, Military Times reported. The program, now in year two of a three-year trial, places spouses in paid fellowship positions with private and public sector employers.
It has focused primarily on “career-ready” fellows but is now expanding to provide opportunities “for those younger spouses who might need to put their foot in the door and start the process of having employment and a career,” Patricia Barron, deputy undersecretary of defense for military community and family policy, said Monday.
More than 400 spouses were placed in fellowships in 2023, the program’s first year. About 83% got offers for permanent jobs.
“We’re getting an awful lot of really good feedback from the military spouses that are involved,” Barron said.
Upcoming Job Fair for Spouses
The Military Spouse Employment Partnership is hosting hiring events and one-on-one career coaching sessions throughout the rest of the month, as Military.com reported.
The activities are leading up to a job fair May 29-30 that spouses can join via MilitaryOneSource.
