Kelly Magsamen, chief of staff to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, will leave her role this summer, Defense News reported. She has been Austin’s chief of staff since he became secretary.

“Kelly’s leadership, counsel and selfless service made our nation safer, made the lives of our people better and more rewarding, and rendered the heavy burden of this office of mine a good bit lighter,” Austin said in a statement.

Caroline Zier, Magsamen’s deputy, will serve as acting chief of staff.
