Air Force Hopes Bonuses Will Warm Service Members to Icy Posts

The Air Force is offering one-time bonuses for airmen and guardians who agree to move to bases with the lowest temperatures, Air Force Times reported.

The Cold Weather Assignment Incentive Pay “assists service members with defraying the initial costs associated with the purchase of cold-weather items necessarily to safely live and work in an extreme cold-weather environment,” according to an Air Force memo that also lays out the amounts available, which range from $500 to $5,000.

Eligible bases include Minot and Grand Forks Air Force bases and Cavalier Space Force Base in North Dakota; Eielson Air Force Base, Clear Space Force Station and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska; and Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana.
